FUNCTIONAL YOGA - IMPROVING OUR PATTERNS OF STABILIZATION AND MOBILITY with Scot Hendricks Saturday, November 4th, 1-3:30pm

40.00

The Yoga sutra 2.46 “sthira-sukham asanam,” describes the yoga postures or asana as having the qualities of sthira and sukha, often translated as steadiness and ease. So what about all the poses in which we do not feel a sense of steadiness or ease, then what are we to do? Should we just keep stretching and sweating, and trust that “all is coming”?

When we shift our focus away from achieving the deepest possible stretch--the gumby like flexibility that some postures seem to require--can we find satisfaction? Perhaps we’ll discover a healthy level of mobility available to us that provides comfortable stability. This workshop will explore a range of motion that keeps us safe and resilient so we can keep doing yoga as well as all the other daily actives we enjoy.

Yoga practice provides an opportunity to perceive many of our own physical tendencies, and it helps us to understand our own behavioral patterns. As we become aware of these patterns--and maybe play with them a little bit--we learn how to use our physical, energetic, emotional, and wisdom bodies as more effective and positive tools. Cultivating grace, fluidity, strength and resilience into not only our yoga practice, but also our total sense of being.
