Mudra, Muse, and Mouth Positions: A weekend with Jessica & Stéphane

Join international yogis Jessica and Stéphane for a playful weekend of interdisciplinary practice that bridges scholarship, embodied practice, creative expression, and deep meditation. They have taught yoga for over 20 years and trained thousands of yoga teachers worldwide. They are also writers, artists, and parents.

Friday, April 24:

7-9pm: Intro to Sanskrit Course Session 1: Sacred Sounds of the Sanskrit Alphabet, $75

For anyone curious about Sanskrit, this is a light-hearted and joyful initiation into sacred language and ancient alphabets. Learn the vowels, the five mouth positions, and how to resonate the sacred sounds.

Saturday, April 25:

8:30-11am: Introduction to the Energetic Body & Awakening the Bandhas, $60

This workshop will introduce you to the energy body mapped in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. We will activate the three main energy channels (nadis): Ida, Pingala and Sushumna and the Kundalini energy that is the support of all Yoga practices. Our physical practice will explore finding bandhas, energy locks that allow us to direct energy in the subtle body. This physical practice will be a dynamic and energizing class that brings to life the core concepts described in Chapter 3 of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

2-5pm: Intro to Sanskrit Course Session 2: Your Mouth as Mudra, $100

We’ll learn more about pronouncing Sanskrit consonants, mouth positions, writing Sanskrit, and how to shape your mouth as an instrument to shift energy.

Sunday, April 26:

8:30-11:00am: Seals, Inversions and the Path to Samadhi, $60

We will deepen the understanding of the energy body we found in Saturday’s workshop by moving into more subtle and advanced bandhas and mudras as found in Chapter 3 of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. A combination of deep physical practice and philsophy, this workshop will unlock the ancient understanding of the reclusive Hatha yogi and help you find a deeper connection with prana and inner awareness. We will explore Maha Mudra, Maha Bandha, Nauli, Khechari Mudra and more. We’ll finish our practice with a calming yoga Nidra to integrate this timeless wisdom.

12-3 pm: Intro to Sanskrit Course Session 3: Vocalizing the Energy Body, $100

Alphabet games! We’ll learn more about how to read, write, and pronounce Sanskrit words as we put together what we’ve learned in the previous two sessions exploring this sacred language and verses from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
